The living room is one of the warmest spaces in our homes. It’s doubly great because it’s a room we like to relax in ourselves, and it’s a room that we love to entertain others in when they come over to our homes. Either way, this room has to be done up perfectly. And while a lot of this depends on the sort of furniture we choose and how we do it up with soft furnishings, a major statement in living room design can be made with lighting elements in the room.
- There is nothing more blissful than a living room that is bright and airy, filled with sunlight. Simply opt for French windows or floor-to-ceiling windows. These add to the sense of space in a room on one hand, and contribute greatly to lighting. To add more feel to the room, you could string fairy lights on the frames of these for subtle lighting in the evenings.
- Lamps are a great way to add lighting to a room, and are particularly popular in living room design. Floor lamps add majesty to a room, and create mood lighting. Choose lamp shades in white or cream for a more elegant look. Alternatively, opt for bright lamp shades in reds and yellows to bring a sense of playfulness to the room.
- Table lamps are another way you could light up your living room. These add panache to coffee-tables, sideboards and other surface areas in the living room. For a more formal look, you could choose ornate table lamps. If you want to add colour, opt for modular lamps with bright lampshades.
Lighting in a room is always enhanced with the colours of the walls and curtains in it. More often than not, lighter colours work better for lighting purposes. If you’re a fan of colour, you could add elements in the form of cushions, rugs and other soft furnishings.
Combine a couple of these living room design tips, and your space should be good to go!
